In Umuahia, Abia State, a 37-year-old man named Chiemela Victor Ekeke has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Magistrate’s Court for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl.

The disturbing incident occurred on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Eze Ogbulafor Street in Umuahia.

Ekeke, a laborer and farmer hailing from Ndioru in Ikwuano Local Government Area, confessed to being HIV-positive but claimed that his doctor had somehow “flushed” away his viral load. Despite his claims, the court found him guilty of child defilement during the previous hearing, leading to the life sentence.

The prosecution praised the court’s decision as it aligned with the law regarding child defilement.

Before receiving the life sentence, Ekeke was acquitted on a count of conspiracy, while another defendant was completely cleared due to insufficient evidence connecting him to the crime.

Ekeke admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the minor but pleaded for leniency.

The reports suggest that he sneaked into the girl’s parents’ home while the mother was away, acquiring some items.

Once inside, he took the young girl to a room in the building, where he violated her and caused injuries to her private parts.

A vigilant neighbor witnessed Ekeke entering the house and promptly identified him, leading to his arrest.

During interrogation, the suspect denied defiling the little girl, claiming that he merely held her in his lap and touched her genitals. He further asserted that he had come to repay a debt of N3,000 to someone in the vicinity.
Blaming the devil for his heinous actions, Ekeke was later handed over to the Police for investigation and prosecution.

Now, he will serve a life sentence for his despicable crime against an innocent child.
