Obasanjo urges Christians to enter politics as a means to combat fraudulent elections.

During his speech at the 57th annual convention and 67th anniversary of The Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) held at Gospel City, Ogunmakin, Ogun State,

the former President addressed the issue of politics, highlighting that it shouldn’t inherently be dirty.

He pointed out that individuals involved in politics are responsible for its negative reputation.

Under the theme “The Roles of the Church in Nation Building at a Time Like This,” Obasanjo praised the church for successfully hosting the convention and emphasized that Christians should resist the corrupting influences of the world, especially in politics.

He urged believers to align with Christ’s values and consistently question themselves about how Christ would handle their situations.

He stressed that in the current challenging circumstances of insecurity, hopelessness, poverty, and depression, the church must act as a positive force.

Obasanjo reminded the audience of their role as the salt of the world and the light on a hill, distinct from the corrupting forces.

He encouraged the church to advocate for justice, fairness, and equity across social, political, and economic spheres.

Furthermore, he likened the church’s impact to the flavor of salt in food and emphasized that a church failing to fulfill its role loses its effectiveness.

He urged Christians to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, and self-control.

While acknowledging the difficulties of life, Obasanjo reminded the congregation that tribulations and hardships are part of the journey, just as Christ overcame them.

He concluded by emphasizing the church’s need to differentiate itself from worldly influences and stand out as a beacon of positive change.
