On Wednesday, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the former Governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, finally spoke out regarding the recent elevation of 11 High Chiefs to the prestigious title of beaded crown Oba.

Ladoja made it clear that he holds no desire for any crown other than the revered position of Olubadan of Ibadanland.

According to a report by Punch, Governor Seyi Makinde of the state has given his approval for the promotion of 11 Ibadan High Chiefs to the status of beaded crown Obas. As stated in the letter sent to the governor by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, the installation ceremony is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 7.

Among the High Chiefs who will be elevated are the Balogun of Ibadanland, Owolabi Olakulehin; Otun Balogun, Tajudeen Ajibola; Osi Olubadan, Eddy Oyewole; Osi Balogun, Lateef Adebimpe; Ashipa Olubadan, Biodun Kola-Daisi; Ashipa Balogun, Kola Adegbola; Ekerin Olubadan, Hamidu Ajibade; Ekerin Balogun, Olubunmi Isioye; Ekarun Olubadan, Bayo Akande; and Ekarun Balogun, Abiodun Azeez.

Former Governor Ladoja, while addressing journalists at his private residence in Bodija, Ibadan, the capital of the state, stated,

When I decided to vie for the position of Olubadan, my focus was solely on becoming the Olubadan, the only crown I aspire to wear is that of the Olubadan of Ibadanland. I have no interest in any other crown apart from that.”
