Kingsley Obiora, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The State Security Service has detained Kingsley Obiora,

the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria responsible for economic policy,

in connection with ongoing investigations into financial mismanagement during the tenure of the ousted Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Mr. Obiora has been held for four consecutive nights and is believed to be a key witness against Mr. Emefiele,

who was controversially removed from office by President Bola Tinubu on June 10, 2023.

Despite two federal judges ordering Mr. Emefiele’s release, the SSS has maintained his custody by filing new charges.

Additionally, another senior CBN official, Abbas Masanawa, has been arrested as authorities probe allegations of corruption within the institution.

These developments follow Mr. Tinubu’s appointment of a special investigator, Jim Osayande Obazee,

in late July to examine corruption within the CBN and other federal agencies suspected of fostering a culture of graft
