President Putin describes the legal proceedings against Trump as a “politically motivated persecution, highlighting perceived flaws in the American system.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized the legal proceedings against former U.S. President Donald Trump, labeling them as “politically motivated persecution” that highlights flaws in the American system.

Trump, currently the leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination,

faces multiple criminal cases and is contesting his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.

Speaking at an economic forum in the Far East, Putin defended Trump, stating, “The persecution of Trump, in our current context, serves as evidence of the shortcomings in the American system.”

Putin implied that it was politically motivated persecution aimed at a political rival and invoked a comparison to Soviet-era terminology, saying,

“This illustrates who our opponents are… reminiscent of the ‘bestial face of American capitalism’ from Soviet times.”

Additionally, Putin accused Washington of fueling anti-Russian sentiments among ordinary Americans, suggesting that reversing this course would prove challenging.
