Over 22 military personnel who lost their lives in combat in Niger State are currently being laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja, located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

NAIJALOADED reports that on August 14, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced the demise of 36 officers who lost their lives in combat.

These officers were on a helicopter that was downed by insurgents in the Zungeru region of Niger State.

The troops had been sent to Kundu village in Wushishi Local Government Area in response to recent acts of banditry in the area.

Some of the fallen officers have already been laid to rest by their families, while the remaining 22 will be interred on Friday.

Presently, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and other service chiefs are in attendance at the cemetery.
