Gabon’s military leader, General Brice Oligui Nguema, has made a commitment to restore democracy.

“While no specific election date has been determined, it was emphasized that the democratic suspension is only of a temporary nature.

During a televised address on Friday, Nguema assured the nation that efforts would be made to enhance the democratic nature of the country’s state institutions.

He clarified that the suspension is a short-term measure and that the military is committed to a swift yet careful approach to avoid repeating past election mistakes,

including the persistence of the same individuals in power.

He stressed that expediting the process does not entail hastily organized ad hoc elections that could lead to recurrent errors.”
